Programme Assistant
The European Commission’s Directorate General for Humanitarian Aid
and Civil Protection (ECHO) seeks to recruit Programme Assistant
To join its Regional Support Office in Nairobi
The European Commission’s Directorate General ECHO, is the European
Commission Department responsible for financing humanitarian assistance
and civil protection.
ECHO finances a range of partners, which include NGOs, UN agencies
and the Red Cross Movement, to provide assistance to people affected by
both natural and man-made disasters.
The ECHO Office in Nairobi is a dynamic, multinational hub, providing
technical support to ECHO’s operations in Eastern, Central and Southern
Africa. This position is a national staff position.
1. Duties & Responsibilities
The Programme Assistant (PA) will work in the Regional Support Office
for East, Central and Southern Africa, and will assist ECHO to provide
high quality technical advice and support to ECHO’s field offices
throughout the region, with a particular focus on ECHO’s disaster risk
reduction assistance activities.
The PA will be required to assist in assessing; analysing &
following up ECHO funded projects; gathering & consolidating
technical information; as well as contributing to strategy and
programming.
The PA position may require significant travel throughout the region.
2. Required Qualifications
- A minimum of five years work experience in the humanitarian sector, a relevant university degree would be an asset;
- Relevant professional and technical experience in disaster risk management;
- Good knowledge of international NGOs and UN aid agencies is an advantage;
- Work experience outside Kenya in an international setting is an advantage;
- Good understanding of humanitarian issues in Eastern, Central and Southern Africa;
- Thorough knowledge of Logical Framework Approach and Project Cycle Management.
3. Required Skills.
- Fluent written and spoken – English is required. A working knowledge of French is an added advantage.
- Personal initiative; ability to work both independently and in a team, with ability to set priorities, and to work to tight deadlines;
- Demonstrated analytical capacity, and drafting ability;
- Commitment, determination, reliability and a high degree of personal integrity & discretion;
- Ability to analyse and process information;
- Ability to clearly and concisely convey information to others.
